The next day being Sunday, Anita and I both slept in late before getting up and going out for a late brunch at the Sweet Skillet, one of our favorite places to eat. We each devoured Belgian waffles topped with Nutella, softly scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon. After brunch we hit the Fremont Sunday Street Market, to walk off the calories from our large brunch. We spend most of the afternoon shopping until early evening, and we gave each other a hug and said our goodbyes before heading home. I am tired by the time I enter my apartment so after kicking off my flats in the bedroom, I place my shopping bags in my closet promising myself to hang up the two blouses and skirts I bought later.

I really need a hot shower and then definitely bed. I peel off my clothes piece by piece on my way to the bathroom, leaving a trail on the floor I will pick them up later, I think to myself as I turn on the shower making sure it’s the right temperature. Sighing in satisfaction, I quickly wash before drying off, applying lotion to my damp skin and slipping into a nightshirt and a pair of white cotton panties. There is nothing like sleeping in a comfortable pair of underwear. I brush my teeth, floss and rinse my mouth with a minty mouthwash before heading to bed.

Although I’m exhausted, I find it hard to sleep. I peer at my alarm clock and notice it’s a little past 10.p.m. My cell phone chimes with an incoming message. I gaze at the dim screen and swipe to read the text of an unknown number.
